The original America won the 1851 One Hundred Guinea Cup around the Isle of Wight, defeating 14 British yachts, for a syndicate from the New York Yacht Club. Her reverse bow, and sails laced to the mast, served as an inspiration to British designers for 25 years. She took part in the first America's Cup in 1870, coming 4th. Her last race was in 1901, after which she slowly fell into disrepair. She ended her days burned for firewood in 1945.
In 1967, the replica America was built by Sparkman & Stephens. It featured in a commercial for Schaffer brewery before being sold as a private yacht.

Ivanhoe was first sailed in the Med by King Constantine of Greece. She then moved to Spain, winning the Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona regularly over the years. In 2002 she was restored to her original glory by her current owner.

Emilia was the second Herreshoff "Twelve", to be built in Italy. The first was La Spina, built by Baglietto of Varazze. The 12mR class was created in 1906, and adapted right until 1987 - it includes the America's Cup boats from 1958 to 87.
The boats are not 12 metres in length - 12 is the maximum product of the equation (L+2d-F+√S)/2.37 where L is waterline, d is difference of skin girth and chain girth, F is Freeboard area and S is Sail area …

Tuiga's first owner was the Duke of Medinacelli, a close friend of Alphonse XIII, King of Spain. William Fife designed Tuiga as a copy of the Spanish royal yacht Hispania, to race against her. Bought in 1995 by Prince Albert for the Yacht Club de Monaco, Tuiga is now the YCM's proud flagship.

Built in 1928, by William and RB Fife, in Fairlie on the Clyde, as the first of a new generation of 23m class, "Big Class" cutters. Cambria only joined the J class in 2003, unlike Astra and Candida, two other 23m yachts from the same era which joined in 1933.

Lulworth, originally one of the most successful big class gaff cutters, was relaunched in May 2006. She has been beautifully restored, in Viareggio, Italy. The mast is 52 m high.
Lulworth belonged to the 23m International Rule of 1907 . As with the other Metre Rule classes, for example the 6m and 12m classes, the number did not refer to the length of the boat but was the product of a formula which included the waterline length, girth, and sail area. Some of the other 23m "Big Class" yachts - White Heather II, Britannia, Cambria, Candida and Astra - were later converted to the J class. This evenly matched racing class from the American Universal Rule encompassed boats between 76 and 87 ft in waterline length, 120 ft length over all, and less than 160 tons displacement.

The A88 was originally built for Colonel Holmes of the US V2 salvage unit in Paris, then sold to Philippe Enthoven, who went on to win the German championship on Lake Constance in 1954. During speed trials later that year in Austria, it reached 128 kmph, a world record for the class, but unfortunately the shaft broke in the official trial.
Ventnor was the preeminent US racing name of the first half of the twentieth century, winning most of the US speed races. Other Ventnor racers include Wings • Tempo V • Juno • Hi-Ho II • Emancipator VII • My Sin • So Long • Eagle • Miss Peps V • Lady Glen IV • Senorita • Emancipator III

Janidore was built in 1930 by Defoe in Michigan, with an original length of 142 ft. In 1966, as Niki I, she was rebuilt by Merril Stevens and lengthened with a swept stern. In 2006 she was given a completely new 1930s restyling by RSD and Axel Vervoordt in Turkey and lengthened again at the bow. The result is a far more elegant yacht which successfully evokes a bygone era.
